I remember back when I was a kid and we would come into our mudroom and have no place to sit down and change out of our winter clothing. On top of that, when we did get our stuff off, most often after jumping around on one foot endlessly, we’d have no place to put our things so they littered the entrance to our house. Well the great people at morelikehome.net have come up with a very simple and convenient idea to help.
This plan is wicked easy to follow and is completely made up of 2×4’s. The instructions go over exactly what has to be cut out and to what measurement each piece has to be. After some easy cutting it turns into an even easier task of assembling and screwing in the differently sized planks of 2×4. As long as you follow the always helpful tip, “measure twice, cut once,” this project will go over without a hitch!
The list of necessary tools shouldn’t scare anyone away from this project!
- Saw
- Drill
- Screws
- Wood glue
- Wood filler
The plan doesn’t go over how to make bins, but it does recommend buying or reusing old boxes or bins that can fit perfectly inside the bench. This way the kids and yourself will have plenty of space to put hats, shoes, or even school backpacks. This sturdy bench design will surely bring a ton of convenience into your mudroom or wherever you really need it. Have fun building this project, and as usual, stay crafty!

It is crazy how few cupola plans there are out there. We have a few here:
https://www.woodworkcity.com/?s=cupola
You could also try the following book from Amazon. Looks like the paperback is available for less than $5.
http://www.amazon.com/Barns-Backbuildings-Carriage-Building-Hardware/dp/096630750X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1384909075&sr=8-2&keywords=build+a+cupola
My wife would suggest you head to your local library. Yes, they still hide the books there.
Good luck.
