We have a surprising number of visitors searching for free bat house plans or bat house blueprints. I suppose if you are in a mosquito infested area, you will want to bring some bats in to keep the mosquito population down. What better way to do that (naturally) than by attracting bats.

Provide any animal a nice home, and they might just appear. Bats are no different.

This free plan comes from the Pennsylvania Game Commission and is very detailed. The bathouse has multiple compartments and has very detailed exploded drawings (blueprint style).

Greene and Greene Style Adirondack Chair Plans – Free

The following Adirondack Chair is a thing of beauty. If you are a fan of craftsman, or mission, style furniture you will undoubtedly love this Greene and Greene inspired Adirondack Chair plan. As always, this plan is free and joins our list or more than 10 unique, free Adirondack Chair Plans!

This plan comes from the fine folks at Porter Cable. Porter Cable has been around for years and was probably introduced to many of us in middle school wood shop class, or via Norm Abram’s New Yankee Workshop. Either way, we benefit from the plans provided by the tool manufacturers. If they can sell one more router because they put out a free wood plan, then it is in their best interest to do so.

Greene and Greene inspired Adirondack Chair

On with this free Adirondack Chair plan. Take a look at the graphic. You will notice the quality of the finishing work on this Adirondack chair. The screw holes were not only plugged, but they were plugged with a dark epoxy. The epoxy saves time and adds protection to the area of the chair that will likely break down first (the screw hole).

The design of this chair’s back slats was inspired by the gardengate of the Greene brothers-designed Thorsen house.

The unique style of this chair matches some of the elements that Greene and Greene are famous for in their architecture. The use of negative space in the back slats and in the leg make this unique and beautiful. The joinery is a more complex than many pieces of Adirondack furniture. You could alter the joinery used, but if you wish to stay true to the plan, you will note the through tenons that add strength and interest to the piece.

Overall, this is one of my favorite Adirondack chair designs. Frankly, I am running out of room in my own back yard but this will be next in line when I am called on to build another Adirondack for my outdoor space.

Every home with a patio, deck or front walk, will probably have a planter at some point. Why not build your own? This free planter plan is a great choice for many settings. Many planter plans are a lower style. This is a tall planter plan that you could always modify to suit your need. The assembly is basic and the lumber that is called for will require minimal cutting. This is a plan that could be executed with a Jigsaw and a hammer.

Free Swing Arbor Plans

Free Swing Arbor Plans

Woodworker’s Journal is a publication that has produced hundreds (perhaps thousands) of free plans over the years. The following plan is for a terrific outdoor swing that hangs from a beautiful arbor. The skill level for this project is definitely in the mid range. It could be a great project for a beginner jump into and learn some new skills. The nice thing about larger scale woodworking projects is that the tolerances tend to be a bit higher than a small scale indoor piece. The ‘fudge factor’ is a little higher and mistakes aren’t as noticable.

The Arbor incorporates mortise and tenon joinery and is made of Mahogany. Mahogany might not be as readily available in many areas (or cost prohibitive, so consider a wood like Cedar or Redwood. Check your local lumber yard.

This plan is really terrific since it includes exploded views of both the swing and the arbor. You could really utilize this to build an arbor (of any size) or a swing that hangs from an existing structure. Let your creativity take hold.

Free Longboard Skate Board Plans

My son has become an avid skateboarder and he sees the older kids riding by on long boards. Some of you might have already downloaded the free skate ramp plans. Of course, he would now like a long board. As a father, and woodworker, I will take it upon myself to provide a longboard from my son. A bit indulgent, but it is fun to show your kids that they can build anything that they want. Don’t be afraid to try.

A longboard is a nice project to build yourself, and with your kids. The style of the longboard can be customized to sue your taste and the graphics on the board can be one of the more fun projects you will be involved in.

Free Sandbox Plans with Deck

If you are going to build a sandbox for your kids, why not build something that is comfortable for a parent and has the ability to put the kids tools and toys in a safe spot that is out of sight.

This free sandbox plan comes from “southernpine.com”. A sandbox might be a simple wood plan, but seeing some variations to a traditional sand box plan can be a big help in opening up your creativity.

The small deck portion is great as a second level of play. The bench portion makes a nice seat and is a great area to store the tools/toys when not in use.

This free garden bench plan is a design that is more refined than many. I am not sure it would be best suited for harsh climates, but it might be worth building nonetheless. As you can see from the picture, there is a split front that reveals a couple of drawers. The one side is built to be a perfect holder for your flower pots when planting.

Adirondack Chair, Footstool, and Table Plans

When deciding on outdoor furniture for a deck, patio, yard, or lakeside retreat, the Adirondack style is always a good choice. If you search WoodworkCity.com, you will see that we back that statement up with plenty of Adirondack chair plans. I think that our site now includes more than 10 Free Adirondack Chair plans. What some of the Adirondack Plans that we offer are lacking is the accompanying items such as a foot stool and a side table. Well, we located a plan (from YellaWood) that includes an individual plan for an Adirondack Chair, Adirondack Footstool, and Adirondack Style Side Table.

The style of the Adirondack chair is classic and calls for a “dog ear” cut on the parts. Many of you will be familiar with the style from a dog ear fence. Obviously, this is a design choice that is easy to alter depending on the look you are going for. All in all a very thorough set of plans with an exploded drawing, material list, cut list and images from the construction process.
