After building a fence I ended up with a good deal of 1x western red cedar stock.  They were perfect parts to make about 5 birdhouses.

Whatever name you choose, here is a free woodworking plan for a side table.   I selected this plan for a couple of reasons.

1. The plan walks you through a tutorial of building with Google Sketchup (a free 3d modeling program)
2. The style of the end table is classic and can be the foundation for countless variations.  For my version, I am going to eliminate the cabinet below the drawer and have an open lower shelf.

Popular Mechanics has some terrific plans.   This is no exception.

The other day, my wife found a bed sold through Restoration Hardware.  I made the mistake of telling her that I needed a project to work on.  She picked a big one.  Here is the bed that I have been tasked with recreating:

I will be using the plan (below) from Popular mechanics to pull this off.  It will take some trial and error, but it should turn out great in the end.  The plan should give me some base dimensions, ideas about the construction, etc.  I can tweak from there.   The bed itself almost has the look of a shaker door.  There is a nice bead detail that was used to edge band the plywood used for the side rails.  They continued this look throughout the bed to tie the design together nicely.  I will hold up much better than a veneer band on the side rail as well.

Many people find Woodwork City when looking for free picnic table plans, so I wanted to add a few options to the free plans that we have available here.

We get a number of calls for a hexagon picnic table.  We are often asked about the hexagon table that pulls apart to fit a center section and seats 12.  You can use the plans below to figure that table out.

2) We may have included this free wood plan in the past, but the folding picnic table is a must have for those with limited space. The folding picnic table can double as a bench, splits for storage, or can be used as a single item when you are challenged for space for your picnic table.

3) Free hexagonal picnic table plan.  This plan will allow you to create the extended picnic table.  It will take a little bit of skill, some extra lumber and creativity, but this picnic table is suited to be a split table due to the shape.

4) Free kids picnic table plan.  This free plan is a great project for the kids and can be used inside or out.  Take care to sand the table properly. A kid with a splinter is not a good thing.

5) The final plan is a traditional picnic table plan and the plans are in video format.  This video has the well known home improvement guru Eric Stromer.  Stromer isn’t just a face on TV, he knows his stuff.  A simple woodworking project that anyone can do.  If you are a visual/audio person, the video is nice.
