Mission Style Bookcase Plans

This is a beautiful mission style bookcase plan. You might call it “Craftsman Style”, as you might find in furniture from the Roycroft movement. It isn’t a free plan, but this is a beautiful project. I built this for my own home with a few modifications. The cabinet plans are incredibly detailed and easy to follow.

Lawn Swing Plans

Someone recently asked me if I had could find free lawn glider plans. Sure, no problem. Well, the plans for a lawn swing or lawn glider weren’t as easy to find as I expected. There are a ton of free porch swing plans, but no so many for the glider style lawn swing.

The plans above are from the LSU Agricultural Center. They may not be too detailed, but it should give you a point to work from.

There is a nice plan at Rockler.com that might suit your needs.

Mailbox protection plans

This isn’t so much a woodworking plan as an aparatus, but after my mailbox was destroyed by a snowplow I felt the need to locate some protection.

This is a patent, so I am not sure if there is an actual product behind it. Good luck if you choose to modify this into a woodworking plan to protect your own mailbox.

Here is a nice cottage style mailbox plan. It has a standard body that covers a traditional rural mailbox and includes a nice picket fence. Take a look.

Deck Plans – Island Style

A stand alone deck… Very cool idea.

Black and Decker offers free plans to build an island style deck. This deck would be an ideal plan to follow if you are looking to build a deck in an open area, or near a water feature such as a pond, river, creek, or stream.

You can learn a number of framing techniques when building a deck. Building one that isn’t attached to a structure is a good way to hone those skills without attaching something to your house.

Free Mission Style Shelf Plan

This free bookshelf plan is for a very nice mission style (Arts & Crafts or Craftsman style) bookshelf that is reminiscent of the furniture produced by Stickly or other Roycrofter’s during the early 1900′s. If you have a love for mission style furniture, you will appreciated the simplicity of this woodworking plan. As always, this is free.

Wood Selection for Smaller Projects

I would encourage anyone who is tackling a smaller project to make a bold choice in your use of wood. There are quite a few varieties available and the price difference between a typical wood and something terrific is nominal.

You can find quite a few unique wood species if you contact a local lumber supplier. If you don’t have one, you can locate a store such as Rockler Woodworking (formerly known as “The Woodworker’s Store”). You can purchase some unique lumber online at Rockler.com
