Ever dream of building your own Kitchen Cabinets? Well, have at it. The construction of a kitchen cabinet is not too difficult and the end result can look as good as a factory build cabinet. I was inspired to build my own kitchen cabinets for 3 reasons.

Unique size needed (shallow cabinet)
Time (I have a lot of it over the winter months)
Cost of custom order cabinets (simply not worth the price)

The basic kitchen cabinet is essentially a box made of plywood or particle board, with a face frame and doors (and/or a drawer). In fact, there are companies out there that will handle the doors and drawers for you at a reasonable price. Rockler Hardware even has a custom door and drawer front program.

If you’ve always wanted a island in your kitchen this Breakfast Bar is a less costly and less time consuming alternative. Great for small kitchens, it provides some extra counter space and features two stools that easily slide underneath the table when not in use. Wheels can be added to make this lightweight table even more movable.

If the stools are in constant use a simple storage fix would be to add some industrial hooks to accommodate towels or hanging pots and pans.

Entertaining in small spaces requires a lot of planning and creativity, so why not put those same skills into use before the party and build this Folding Wine Counter. It may take a little time and a lot of skill, but the wine rack, two shelves, and easily compacted design, is totally worth the effort.

This indoor mailbox is something that will ease the tension between the wife who wants to be clutter free and the husband who needs things to remain on the counter otherwise he will forget about them. This is a very basic plan that can be completed in just a couple of hours, but sometimes a simple project is what is needed. How many of us have four or five incomplete pieces laying around? Put your hands down now. Build this and cross it off of your list.

Wine Cabinet Plans

These plans are for a wine cabinet that might not be what you think it is when you hear cabinet. I would consider this more of a wine rack, but it doesn’t do the item justice and I wanted to be sure this could be found when you are searching for a wine display cabinet or rack.

One of the great features is that it is designed to hold your bottles and glasses, yet the scale allows for it to be a showpiece. This is an ideal item if you don’t want something built in, but want to give the impression that it is.

If you are a woodworker and know a wine lover, this is a great gift. Next time you are in their home, sneak some measurements and build a custom cabinet for them.

Vanity Cabinet

This vanity cabinet plan is an old plan, but is more applicable than ever. Vessel sinks are becoming all the rage, but if you have shopped for a sink cabinet combination, you will find that you choices are very limited due to the low height required for the vessel to be useable. I feel this woodworking plan for a bathroom vanity is an easy one to modify to your needed height without much alteration.

This is rather simple woodworking construction of a cabinet carcass. However, if you have never built a cabinet before, you might not realize ho simple it is to achieve a great result. A cabinet (in this case a bathroom vanity) is nothing more than a plywood box with a base and a toe kick. The part that dresses up the cabinet is the face frame and the doors. When you think about it, there isn’t a lot to it and the skill level is not that high to achieve a professional result.

The part that makes your cabinet look professional will be the doors. Now, you could build your own doors, but if you don’t have the right tools your design choices will be limited and the quality of construction could be jeopardized. You could purchase a door kit for your router table or shaper, but a quality set will be north of $100. You can see how this might only make sense if you are building an entire kitchen full of cabinets.

We have a simple and inexpensive solution for the perfect set of doors. There are companies out there who just build doors. Many people will reface old cabinets in an kitchen remodel. It is a great option for a do it yourselfer and so a number of companies have popped up offering nothing more than cabinet doors in a number of styles. You can check on Ebay or at Rockler.com. I would recommend a company called Doors and Pulls. This cabinet door company offers a number of options in terms of style, sizes, and the wood used. You won’t believe how inexpensive they are. Once you have your doors, match up your face frame lumber and start building your own cabinet.

The wood used in the original plan is oak, but I would recommend a wood that is readily available and provides a nice match with your existing room.

Kitchen Island Plans

If you have the room for an island in your kitchen, this is a nice project plan and can roll away if you are a bit cramped for space.

Doesn’t everyone want more counter top space or cabinet storage? At times it is very useful. This kitchen island is attractive, relatively easy to build and affordable. The casters make this a great project that won’t require you to damage your existing floors or make a permanent change to your kitchen layout. In fact, if you move, take this island with you.

This island is so useful, you might want to make 2 of them. One for your workshop and one for your kitchen. If you choose to build 2, build the workshop island version first. You will get any of the kinks out and your kitchen island project is likely to turn out a little better. If building one for your shop, consider the height of your table saw and keep the island height in line with that. This will act as a terrific outfeed table for your table saw.
