If you are building a lawn swing of any type you will need a structure that will be able to handle the back and forth motion without shifting, tipping, or becoming unsafe in any way.
This is an ideal lawn swing support for the lawn or porch swing plan that we featured in the past.
This is a simple plan that uses 4″ x 4″ posts along with some large bolts and flat steel. All of the material is available from your local Home Depot or Lowe’s and you should be able to build this structure in a few hours.

Here are a few potting bench, or garden bench plans. I posted a free potting bench plan in the past, but wanted to add another since that didn’t suit my needs (my wife’s needs) for our back patio.
She is after something that has a dual purpose. She would like a garden bench that can be used for her potting and also double as a sideboard or a buffet when we have dinner guests on the patio.
Here are few variations of the potting bench plan. I think that I will have to select my favorite features of each and modify from there. I might get real crazy and include a copper backsplash (using copper ceiling tile) to dress it up.

A free potting bench plan from HGTV (video included). This is nice, simple, potting bench that could be used as the basis for something more decorative. Once you have the framework, the difficult task is done. You can modify it with a backing made of wood, or go crazy and install a copper backsplash for a unique touch. You can even use copper wiring to simulate a vine.

This is perhaps the coolest potting bench of the group. Because of the scale of the work surface, it has limited functionality, but the look is cool enough to make up for the lack of function. This could almost be used as a “station” in your back yard among your garden, and not your primary work area.
The final potting bench plan is a nice plan that is easy to build. As with any wood plan, you can modify it to suit your needs. Click on the image for the full wood plan.

Someone recently asked me if I had could find free lawn glider plans. Sure, no problem. Well, the plans for a lawn swing or lawn glider weren’t as easy to find as I expected. There are a ton of free porch swing plans, but no so many for the glider style lawn swing.

The plans above are from the LSU Agricultural Center. They may not be too detailed, but it should give you a point to work from.
There is a nice plan at Rockler.com that might suit your needs.
Of course they aren’t free!
