Under Stair Storage Bin Plan

Are you struggling to find storage space in your home?  Perhaps you moved form the Northeast where basements are the norm and now live in Florida where a basement is not considered.  If so, you probably need some extra storage space.  This wood plan from Popular Mechanics will help you to capture the storage space that is being wasted under your stairs.   It is well constructed, attractive, and offers complete access.

Under stair storage plans

If this storage bin plan suits your home, you will love it. In fact, if you do have a basement, consider something like this below your basement stairs (especially if you have a finished space).  Good luck with this great DIY Project.

Simple Indoor Bench Plans

These plans are beginner level and you will end up with a functional and fancy bench for any room in your home.  Use it as a plant stand, a hall bench, or a closet bench.

This is a very versatile woodworking project.  It is provided by Lowe’s and because of that, you can print the material list and head right to the store.  You should be able to get most of your materials with one stop.

Review the tools needed.  Most woodworkers will already have these in their shop.  If not, consider a new purchase. The money that you save by building this yourself will justify the cost.  At least that is what we tell our spouses.

Mission Table Lamp

Table lamp Yesterday it was a floor lamp, today we give you the mission table lamp. I guess this must be the week of the lamp. When I discovered the plan for this lamp, I had to share it. I absolutely love the style. If you are a fan of the Arts and Crafts style (mission furniture, Stickley, etc.) you will appreciate the simple lines that showcases the beauty of the wood. Enjoy this project. Click on the picture to view the complete wood plan.

Heirloom Lamp Plans

This is a very contemporary lamp that probably won’t fit with every decor, but it is more a piece of art than it is a crafty woodworking project.  With the right care, construction, and quality material choices this could end up on antiques road show in 50 years.  Make the lamp unique and make it your own.  Choose quality components and you will have a one of a kind heirloom.

Good luck.

Garden Bench Plans

Now is the time to start your spring projects. If you are like me and your projects tend to take a little time, it probably makes sense to start planning your outdoor spring projects. I know that I have an arbor in my future and you might as well. This cedar garden bench is a nice addition to just about any yard.

Poker Table Plans

The poker craze may have died down a little bit, not much, but if you have a neighborhood poker game, or know an avid poker player, this is a great project.  These poker table plans come from a guy named Ryan who has 4 different styles on his site (similar, but different).  It is nice because Ryan isn’t trying to sell you anything, he is just providing a nice “how to” for building your very own poker table.

Poker table plans and instructions

He has detailed pictures and instructions for 4 different tables (as of this writing on 2/16/2007).  He also provides links to supply companies for the various poker table parts.

As Mike Sexton (or the tournament director) would say, Shuffle up and deal!

Mailbox - Indoor

This indoor mailbox is something that will ease the tension between the wife who wants to be clutter free and the husband who needs things to remain on the counter otherwise he will forget about them.  This is a very basic plan that can be completed in just a couple of hours, but sometimes a simple project is what is needed.  How many of us have four or five incomplete pieces laying around?  Put your hands down now.  Build this and cross it off of your list.

Router Table Plans

These router table plans are from woodworkers workshop and might be  a little fancier than what you are after, but you can’t argue with the function that this router table provides.

Features of this router table and workstation

The above features are probably all of the things that you would want if you were to go into a store and purchase one brand new.  Why not build it yourself.  The plans are thorough and well illustrated with pictures of each step.  The builder, Joe Johns, built his using Oak, but you could obviously use any wood that you choose.

Deck Bench Plans

Deck bench plans Free plans for a deck bench that can be incorporated into any deck or patio. These plans come from Black and Decker and are a great project to complete and have ready for spring. The bench plans are easy to build, look great, and will last a lifetime with minimal care. My kind of project.

How about this for a short material list:

Materials:
Fasteners (stainless steel recommended)
3″ deck screws (60)
2 1/2″ deck screws (16)
Lumber
1 2 × 4″ × 8′ cedar
1 2 × 4″ × 6′ cedar
4 2 × 2″ × 8′ cedar
1 2 × 6″ × 6′ cedar
1 4 × 4″ × 6′ cedar

You could substitute redwood for cedar. In my opinion, it depends on your taste and the price of the material. Generally, cedar will have more knots than redwood but might be a little less expensive.

When working with any outdoor project, I encourage everyone to choose quality fasteners. You can not get any better than stainless steel. You might balk at the price, but in a year or 2, you will thank me. There is no reaction in the wood, causing streaking, when using stainless and they will not corrode or rust like ANY other fastener.

Hall Mirror Plans

These mirror plans can be used in a hall, or bedroom.  The plans are very simple and use a stock mirror that can be found at Home Depot or Lowe’s.  This is a simple shelf to build and can be dressed up with some additional trim or molding.
