Window Valance Plans

This free valance plan from hammerzone.com is written up to be a fluorescent light valance. However, you could apply the same simple design to build a valance for a window. In fact, that is probably the more common use.

The material list is short and could be altered from the existing wood plan. In the original plan, they recommend stock lumber with an edge detail that you rout. If you have a router, with some nice profile bits, this is fine. If you don’t have a router, don’t worry. Just go with some stock molding or trim. There is a great book titled “Trim Idea Book that can usually be purchased at home depot and lowe’s that shows different profiles that you can create with stock molding. If it is there, you might want to take a peek while making your selections.
You will also notice that they utilize a biscuit to join the trim. This can be done with glue and nails, hardware, or a wood corner block.

Window valance

This is an inexpensive woodworking / home improvement project that has a huge impact. Good luck.

Toy Crane

A toy crane is a good project if you want to build something on a small scale with a fair amount of detail. These plans are very well written and the diagrams are full scale, so the cutting couldn’t be any easier.

The material list can be derived from the graphic below. Unfortunately, this isn’t exactly a shopping list of material needed, but the exploded view of the crane (found when clicking on the woodworking plans link) will dive you a great visual of the project.

Good luck with this great woodworking project that is just in time for the holidays.

Toy Log Cabin Plans

Remember lincoln logs? Of course you do. Well, if you are waxing nostolgic, you can build your own set of logs and a project that can be used for a toy log cabin. This project is great for a child’s toy, a holiday decoration, or a decorative building for a train set.

The project is one that is not too difficult and is from the people who make the Shopsmith Woodworking System.

With this kind of project, there is no limit to the size of the project.  You could make enough logs to build a small village.   Working with a smaller project is a great way to hone your woodworking skills.  As the scale of a project shrinks, the margin of error shrinks with it.

Good luck and have fun!

Treehouse Plans

Tree house plans without the need for a tree!

These tree house plans are for the woodworker, or builder, who wants to work with a large scale project and wants something that can be fun for the whole family to pitch in.  Nearly everyone who wants to tackle a play structure will select a jungle gym, or swing set, but how many of your neighbors have a tree house?  Better yet, a treehouse that doesn’t need a tree?

Tree house plans

These tree house plans are thorough, but should not be tackled by anyone but an experienced woodworker or builder.  Safety should be your main concern here and if your woodworking or construction skills are questionable, you might want to bring in someone with some experience to help tackle this big project.  This is not a one person build.

Good luck with this great project.

Simple Garden Bench Plans

This is a woodworking project for anyone and everyone.

This is a relatively simple plan for a simple yet elegant English style garden bench. This wood plan is simple to modify and can be made from material that is available at just about any home store.

The wood used will depend on your climate, the location of your bench, final finish (paint, unfinished, or stained) and the material that is available in your area.

Bunk Bed Plans

As winter rolls in in the northern states, woodworkers move indoors. There probably aren’t too many projects that will bring happiness to your child as his/her first big kid bed. These free bunk bed plans are a terrific project for any woodworker. Your child, or children will be thrilled. If you had bunk beds as a child, you will know what I mean. The possibilities are endless. When I was young, my bunk bed was a bed, a fort, and the coolest place to play board games with my brother.

This is a detailed project, but if your children are sleeping on the bunk beds, you would hope so.

Downdraft Sanding Table

Not only is the does this project server as a great downdraft sanding table, but the table does double duty as an additional work surface, or, as a terrific table saw out feed table. If you work with plywood, and don’t already have a table saw extension, you will certainly appreciate this.

Fighting to keep down in the workshop is a constant battle. A downdraft table does a real nice job of helping to eliminate some of the dust while sanding large or small woodworking projects. I have heard of people using their downdraft table when using other tools in the shop. It creates an air flow that draws the fine dust that is in the air toward the table. The benefits of this down draft sanding table are many. Good luck with the project. Thanks to Real Lalonde.
