Umbrella Stand Plans

These Art Deco Umbrella stand wood plans are from DIY Network. If you are a fan of the show “Wood Works” you are aware of what a great job they do with all of the woodworking projects that they feature. Often times the projects are advanced, or require some tools that might not be in the shop of someone who isn’t used to building a more advanced project.

These plans are from “Wood Works” episode WWK 302.

The umbrella stand is constructed in 4 parts. The links are listed below.

Aquarium Stand Plans

These are simple to build, yet solid, plans for an aquarium stand.  If you shopping for an aquarium stand, you might be surprised by the high prices for what appears to be a relatively simple piece of furniture.  One of the things that pushes a woodworker into doing a project is a high price tag for an item.  How many times have you said to yourself (or your significant other) “I could build that”.  Many times it makes sense.

In the case of the aquarium stand, the construction is simple and the material choices are broad.  You can build something that will be a match with your existing furniture and decor.

Arbor Plans

These arbor plans are ideal for a grape arbor.

If you have a backyard space and want a project that stands out, an arbor can be a great choice.  As with this arbor, you can grow vines that will  make your arbor space feel like an outdoor room.

When building a project of this scale, you really need an extra set of hands.

Kitchen Island Plans

If you have the room for an island in your kitchen, this is a nice project plan and can roll away if you are a bit cramped for space.

Doesn’t everyone want more counter top space or cabinet storage?  At times it is very useful.  This kitchen island is attractive, relatively easy to build and affordable.  The casters make this a great project that won’t require you to damage your existing floors or make a permanent change to your kitchen layout.  In fact, if you move, take this island with you.

Click on the picture to link to the complete plans for the kitchen island.  The plans are in PDF format.

This island is so useful, you might want to make 2 of them.  One for your workshop and one for your kitchen.  If you choose to build 2, build the workshop island version first.  You will get any of the kinks out and your kitchen island project is likely to turn out a little better.  If building one for your shop, consider the height of your table saw and keep the island height in line with that.  This will act as a terrific outfeed table for your table saw.

Good luck building!

Taper Jig for Table Saw

If you are an avid woodworker, you have probably run into a need to cut an accurate taper for things such as table legs.  Here are some wood plans for a simple table saw taper jig that will make the project go quickly and won’t require you to figure too much out on your own.
taper jig

This jig is easy to build and you will find that it saves a lot of time and allows you to make repetitive and accurate cuts for your woodworking projects.  Hang this one on the wall, you will be happy that you have a taper jig when the need arises.

Good luck.  Don’t forget to recommend any plans that you would like to see posted at woodwork city.  We will do our best to locate what you are after and post the plan within a day or two of the woodworking plan suggestion.

Birdhouse Wood Plans

A birdhouse is a great woodworking plan for a parent and child. It is a simple project that requires a small amount of material and can be completed in a short period of time with limited woodworking skills. That being said, it is a project that will last for a lifetime as a memory, and as a home for a family of birds.

Holidays are approaching and many children are off of school. This is a good project to complete during this period. If you haven’t worked with your child on a woodworking project, they will be thrilled at the prospect. Whether or not they have the patience to complete the birdhouse with you will probably depend on their age. Either way, they will enjoy the time working with a parent.

If you are going to be building the birdhouse with a younger child (under 4 years old), I would recommend that you precut all of the pieces and let them help you with the assembly. This is advice for fun and safety.

Materials needed:

Good luck with your birdhouse project. Remember, woodworking is supposed to be fun. If you are working on a project with a child, be sure that you try to keep it that way. Limiting the amount of work that the child will be doing and keeping them active and involved will make it an enjoyable project for everyone involved.

Kitchen Desk

This a kitchen desk plan that uses stock cabinets.  You can configure your own desk or workstation based on the area available in your own kitchen.  You can purchase off the shelf cabinets, or order cabinetry to match your existing kitchen.  Either way, this plan will help show you how relatively simple this project is.

If you are familiar with Roz Hazelton, you will know that he does a good job explaining techniques and this simple plan is no different.
